In the Student Spotlight: Shelby

Shelby joined KVPAC in the summer of 2005. Her parents encouraged her to take a theatre camp in hopes of overcoming her shyness. Shelby's first director, Lisa Burt cast her in a speaking part and Shelby hasn't been silent or shy on stage since. "Shelby is anything but shy and a pleasure to teach," said Mrs. Burt.

Shelby took to the stage with exuberance and went on to play roles in Oh My Gosh Mrs. McNosh, Click Clack Moo, Mouse Soup, Charlotte's Web, Babes in Toy Land, Snow White, Disney's Cinderella, and Oz. Most recently she starred as Aurora in Disney's Sleeping Beauty and Penelope Trout in Willie Wonka Jr.

This spring at her junior highschool, she choreographed and performed dance numbers for Suessical Jr. She is an A student and in 7th grade. Between shows, the Katy native takes dance and cooking classes. She volunteers regularly at KVPAC and has discovered a passion for backstage work with props and stage-managing.

"I'm a triple threat!" Shelby says, "That's what you call it when you can sing, dance and act". Shelby's parents' hopes are realized - the shy and reserved child is no more.
